Afternoon ride: Denbury
4 Participants:
Graham Brodie, Gary French (Junior, Torquay), Raymond Snelling, Paul Unknown (Junior, Brixham)
In addition to last month’s new member, another keen youngster, Gary French of Torquay, has joined us and proved to be very enthusiastic.
The March afternoon run was a great success, mainly due to the great hospitality of John and Win Reynolds who made us tea at their Denbury home. Ten were out, including Gary, Raymond (Cake Eater Extraordinaire) and another new lad, Paul, from Brixham. All were indeed very well looked after.

Day ride: Blackpool Sands

Our ride to Blackpool Sands we thought we’d end up sheltering in the bus shelter at Tuckenhay again but, fortunately, we dodged the showers and found a damp but sheltered hedgerow for lunch. Afterwards we dropped down to the beach and climbed the long hill to Dartmouth where we reluctantly parted with 25 pence each to cross on the ferry and then braved the long drag over the top of Brixham. But we made up for it on the run down the other side.

Weekend ride: Inter-DA Photographic Competition
Day 1
4 Participants:
Graham Brodie, Basil Ellis, Gary French, Raymond Snelling
Both Gary and Raymond rode a good section of the route from Torbay to Crowcombe and back, and Raymond seemed the least “puffed out” of the lot when we returned. Basil (who’s just turned 76 years young – congratulations Baz) also rode extremely well and must be one of the Section’s hardiest members, seemingly unaffected by the cold and wet runs we’ve been having.
Our ride up to Crowcombe was mainly with the Exeter crowd and proved to be quite enjoyable, with even hints of spring in between the cold spells. It proved a worthwhile ride after the 5-star treatment given to us by Crowcombe’s wardens, Len and Alice Beck. Many thanks to you both.

Weekend ride: Inter-DA Photographic Competition
Day 2
4 Participants:
Graham Brodie, Basil Ellis, Gary French, Raymond Snelling
The return trip was rather different. We set off in flurries of wet snow and had only travelled a few miles when first Raymond’s toe strap broke and then Jean Brierly’s back tyre punctured. After this it was the “Capes on – Capes off – Capes on” routine as the skies continuously turned from brilliant blue to dark grey and back. We were startled to meet two tanks hurtling through the lanes at Tedburn, but after this we were graced with a peaceful ride down the Teign Valley, then home via Newton Abbot.

Our run to Postbridge was a wash-out with heavy rain at the start of the day, putting off all except Basil who ventured for a few miles before returning home.

Tour: North Devon and Cornwall
1 Participants:

Three of us went on the Easter Tour to Cornwall and really enjoyed ourselves. With glorious weather throughout the tour we could appreciate the great beauty of the coast of North Devon and Cornwall. Places visited included Boscastle and Elmscott, and the coves between them, the villages of Hartland and Clovelly with a ride along the Hobby Drive, and the last night was spent at Instow, near Bideford.
The most notable item on the tour was the meal provided at Elmscott hostel. Although only a simple hostel with limited facilities, the meal would have replenished the weariest of tgravellers, and the wardens should be praised for their efforts which were greatly appreciated by everyone.
